Parent’s Guide to Children’s Chiropractic Care

Chiropractic care can seem like an obvious choice for an adult dealing with chronic back pain or discomfort. But you may not know when it is the right time to take your children to see a chiropractor. Here’s our parent’s guide to children’s chiropractic care.

Newborns

A newborn baby seems perfect in every single way. From their head to their toes, you probably feel like there could be nothing wrong with them. While that may be true, chiropractic care can be incredibly beneficial to your new little one. They just made a very hard journey from your womb to your arms, and an alignment can help their transition to this new world go a lot smoother.

Nuisances like colic, trouble latching, bonding, tongue and lip ties, and digestion issues can all be helped with children’s chiropractic care. And before you jump to conclusions, know that a newborn adjustment is nothing like an adult adjustment. Your chiropractor uses small gentle touches and pressure on your newborn, and it is perfectly safe.

Older Children

Older children are much more resilient beings, but they also tend to get into some crazy accidents. Whether your child thought he was superman and jumped off the top bunk only to land on his brother, or you have a child who struggles to focus or has recently started wetting the bed, chiropractic care can help.

When you take your child to see a chiropractor, you are supporting their nervous system. This communication highway is crucial to making sure that all of your child’s needs are being met. When your brain sends a signal to an organ or a muscle, you want to be sure that that signal is being received. However, if that communication is broken, your brain may be sending a signal that never reaches its intended destination.

Children’s chiropractic care should be your first stop when your child has a sudden change of behavior or develops discomfort and growing pains. It very well may be that their nervous system just needs tending to just like mom and dads.

Teenagers

Given all of the drastic changes that seem to occur as your child transitions into their teenage years, it is crucial to support their nervous system during this time. Sudden acne, mood swings, and migraines can all accompany puberty as an influx of hormones courses through their bodies. Girls now have the added hormones that come with their menstrual cycles, and boys are just pumping testosterone. This may be a daunting time for both parent and child. Know you can help your child through these transitions with chiropractic care.

Regular visits can help ease their growing pains and discomforts. It can also help if your child has poor posture due to carrying a backpack at school all day or has been staring at a screen in their room for hours. We can also help support them through sports injuries and other physical stressors.

You may still be wondering, “When is the right time to take my child to see a chiropractor?” and the answer is, now! Supporting a healthy child with chiropractic care can look like regular adjustments throughout their childhood. Give your kid the best foundation for their health by maintaining their health through chiropractic care.
